Membership
To become a member of the EUMC you can sign up online here. Memberships will open on Monday 9th September - more info will be posted on our Instagram!
Full year membership: £50
Single semester membership: £30
If you'd like to know where your membership fees go to, read more about that in our Money section.
Non-members are allowed to go on one meet (see below)
In order to be insured (by the Mountaineering Council of Scotland and the Sports Union) for activities offered by the club you need to be a paid member of the EUMC and have given us full contact details.
The exception to this rule is that non-members are insured (but only by the Sports Union) to go on one meet at any point in the year.
Non-Edinburgh University Students (including non-students)
As our activities are heavily subsidised by the Sports Union, applicants who are not currently studying at the University of Edinburgh are required to pass an application process through the Sports Union Development Committee. Members are assessed using a point system, with a minimum of 6 points needed to join the club. Points are allocated as follows:
Member of Staff - 6
Coaching Qualification - 4 (Eg. SPA, SML)
University of Edinburgh Graduate - 3
Health and safety Qualification (including First Aid) - 3
Minibus Licence / Permit - 2
Driving Licence - 1
Discretionary Points (decided by Development Committee) - 2
If you pass the minimum requirement of 6 points then please get in touch with our club Secretary through the contact form on the Committee page, and they will submit an application to EUSU for you. In certain circumstances, high levels of experience can be counted as a coaching qualification (e.g: 40+ munros, 40+ trad lead climbs, DofE supervisor/assessor work, winter climbing experience).
For non-students, full year membership is £60 and single semester membership is £35.

During semester-time we have a social every Thursday, usually starting at 8.00pm. These range from the sensible to the weird and wacky, but always fun! Usually we end up at the pub afterwards and then Hive...

GBH
Graham Brown House is the club flat, so there's typically always someone in and willing to socialise. You can read more about GBH here. It is also home to our Library and Gear Store.
If you want to know more...
We have several events during Welcome Week at the beginning of every year - come along to get an idea of what we do! You'll find us at the Sports Fair in Bristo Square on Monday, where there will be people on hand to answer any questions you might have and encourage you to come along to our events. We have a Welcome Talk; the new President puts together lots of photos of the previous year, and we all watch in a lecture hall. This gives a good insight into the kind of things you might be doing with us, and you'll get to meet everyone at the pub afterwards. We have a trad climbing taster session at Auchinstarry, a classic Central Belt climbing destination. Finally, we have the Cobbler Meet - this a day trip up the Cobbler on the final weekend of Welcome Week.
If all your questions STILL haven't been answered, you can get in touch with all of our committee members by emailing mountaineering@ed.ac.uk!
